The LoRa APRS iGate firmware by Ricardo Guzman allows selection from a bunch of different symbols to be beaconed into the APRS-IS network.

The correct spelling is actually "Igate", as defined in the official APRS documentation. The widely established spelling "iGate" will be used throughout this article though.

RX iGate

The default setting. To be used for standard RX-only LoRa iGates. Officially added to the APRS specification as recommendation in 20211.

TX iGates

Should be used for TX iGates sending out packets by RF received via the APRS-IS network. The APRS specifications recommend using a black diamond symbol with "T" or "2" overlay (standing for 1 and 2 hops respectively), but to keep the LoRa differentiation the "L" is kept but used on a red diamond symbol.

Digipeaters

The green star symbol stands for digipeater in the original APRS symbol recommendation. An overlay "L" is used to indicate a LoRa digipeater.

WX Station

Blue circle symbols are already used for WX stations. The "L" overlay indicates a LoRa WX station. Current iGate firmwares enable this symbol as soon as a sensor (like BME/BMP280) is connected.
